Béres Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd.

"If somebody asks you for help, and you can help, then you are obliged to do so!" This was the advice that Dr. József Béres received from his mother. Today, an entire group of companies holds the legacy of this moral message. It was in the spirit of this motto that Dr. József Béres and Béres Rt. founded the Béres Foundation, the main task of which is to coordinate the charitable activities of the Béres Group. Since the formation of the foundation almost a decade ago, it has been dedicated to supporting numerous healthcare-related programmes, as well as cultural, educational and church initiatives. The Béres Foundation is presided over by an eight-member board of trustees chaired by Dr. József Béres, with Klára Béres as secretary.

The main areas supported by the Béres Foundation are:

Health: The Béres Foundation is most active in the area of health protection. For years now, the foundation has donated products with a value of almost HUF 80 million a year to the needy. In 2002, within the framework of the Béres a daganatos betegekért program (Béres Programme for Cancer Patients), it assisted sufferers of malignant diseases through the holding of presentations, the provision of information and the operation of a telephone helpline, as well as a donation of 50,000 bottles of Béres Drops. We also support a number of other foundations, for example the Csend Hangja (Sound of Silence) Foundation, which, with our assistance, conducts hearing tests on 5,000 children every year.
Education: The Foundation assists outstandingly talented students at the Szent István University with its Béres Scholarship, and supports the Kutató Diákokért Alapítvány (Foundation for Research Students), which gives over 3,500 Hungarian secondary school students the opportunity to work together with top Hungarian scientists at this early stage in their education. The foundation also assists a secondary school dormitory in Záhony that bears the name of József Béres, as well as another school in the town.
Hungarian culture: We support numerous outstanding contemporary Hungarian artists and artistic initiatives, including Central Europe's only poetry periodical "Parnasszus," which - with the help of the Béres Foundation - is distributed to 350 libraries around the country. In cooperation with the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Education, the Béres Foundation sponsored a joint production by composer László Dubrovay and poet Tibor Gyurkovics for the occasion of the Hungarian millennium celebrations. The finished CDs were distributed to 4,000 primary, secondary and music schools in Hungary.
Local initiatives: As a Hungarian company, Béres considers it important to nurture its relations with the community of the town where its premises are located. Thus, both the company and the Foundation endeavour to assist the local press, schools and religious communities.
Church initiatives: The foundation provides financial support for a number of church initiatives in connection with healthcare and the protection of listed monuments.
